Tuesday Makers - Heather McEwan

We used to drive past an artist's studio on the way to school every morning. More often than not, the morning light would be streaming through the glass doors onto a blank canvas, and he'd be seated back in an armchair. No brush —just the mapping of his eyes taking place. We saw him in this mode far more often than standing at his easel. The intersection of his process and our timing I suppose…

I wish I'd talked with him before he moved away. I suspect that if art, for him, was communication, he'd have enjoyed my questions.

For some, art is something to view. For others, it is an experience.

The creative and expressive apects of artistry are a reminder of our Creator's skill, power and eye for beauty.

For me, art is a language, an inner momentum, a way of seeing, a place of rest, delight, meditation, of slowing down, of being frustrated, of trying again, adapting, learning, and attempting to communicate over and over again. It is all these things and more.

When Comparison enters the room, my art can make me want to be silent. Learning comes from every facet of the experience.  When Curiosity arrives - there is something altogether different.  When neither comes, my heart and hands have still offered something.

If anything here rests well with you and if you'd enjoy some art taster afternoons, please come and join any of our upcoming "2nd Tuesday Makers" sessions over the coming months. Please BYO project or possibly contribute $5 (to cover materials cost) to join a project of the day, led by a range of artists and makers.

If you're a beginner—come. If you're just looking for some company—come. If you're accomplished at something—come!

RSVP isn't imperative, but it is helpful for set-up. See our FB page or flick us an email.

Bless ya!

Heather

Q & A

Q - What should I bring?
A -
Anything you are currently working on that is portable.  (Any additional projects on offer will have materials provided.)

Q - Can I bring my kids?
A -
Only nursing babies at this time.

Q - Is there a timetable of types of art being shown/demonstrated/taught?
A -
Not at this time.  We want to follow an organic development and see how that goes for a while.

Q - Where exactly will it be?
A -
In the hall at the Darlington Rd end of our block. The cream coloured building.

Q - Is it OK if I come late or leave early?
A - Of course! Whatever suits you... we wanted to offer an extended time to allow for such comings and goings as well as those who might be able to stay for the whole time.

Q - Can I come if I don't go to your church?
A - Also yes... please do!
